Finding Beauty in Our Brokenness

We can all relate to that feeling of falling apart at the seams, can’t we? Especially when life throws us curveballs that we weren't expecting. But here's the thing: God can still use us to make beautiful music even when we feel like we’re falling to pieces.

Take the grand old pipe organ in one of our small town chapels, for example. It’s been around longer than anyone can remember, and unfortunately, it's seen better days. The coolness and dampness of the Welsh air have taken their toll.  So much so that during a recent service, some of the keys literally fell off while the organist was playing! Talk about a disaster, right?  I’m glad I wasn’t playing!!!

But here's the thing: the organist didn't let that stop him. He kept playing, choosing his notes carefully and making the most of the situation. And you know what? It was still beautiful. Because even though the organ wasn't perfect, it was still capable of making music.

It reminded me of how we often feel like we're falling apart, too. Maybe we're going through a tough time at work, we're dealing with a difficult relationship, or we're struggling with our mental health. It can feel like we're losing pieces of ourselves like the keys falling off the organ. But just like the organist, we can still make beautiful music, even when we're not at our best. We can focus on what we have instead of what we’ve lost and trust that God can use us despite our imperfections. He can take our broken pieces and turn them into something beautiful.

The Bible tells us that God specializes in using broken things. Second Corinthians 4:7 says, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." That means God uses ordinary, imperfect people like you and me to do extraordinary things.

So, how can we let God use us, even when we feel we're falling apart? Well, it's simple. We just have to be willing. We must offer ourselves to Him, broken pieces and all, and trust that He can make something beautiful out of us.

Now, I'm not saying it's easy. It can be scary to let go of our control and trust God with our lives. But I'm telling you, friends, it's worth it. Because when we allow God to use us, we'll find He's more than capable of handling whatever life throws our way.

So, the next time you feel like you're falling apart, take a deep breath and remember that God can still use you to make beautiful music. He can take your broken pieces and make you whole again. All you have to do is be willing.

And who knows? Maybe, just like that old pipe organ, we'll surprise ourselves with the beautiful music we can make.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: - Phillipians 1:6
