God’s Unstoppable Love
As we explore the meaning of Christmas, we must discuss the motivation behind the entire story. Why would God, who is perfectly self-sufficient and glorious, send His only Son into this messy world? The answer is simple, powerful, and utterly life-changing: Love.
The Nativity wasn't a political move or a tactical strategy; it was the most dramatic act of love ever performed. The whole reason for the manger, the star, and the eventual cross is captured in that one famous verse:
John 3:16 (KJV): "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
I love that phrasing: "God so loved the world." It’s not that God loves the world a little or sometimes, but that His love is vast, deep, and relentless—a complete, unstoppable force. His love wasn't a feeling; it was a commitment that required the ultimate sacrifice: "that he gave his only begotten Son."
Think about that word "gave." God didn't just lend Jesus to us for a visit. He gave Him, knowing the full cost, the pain, the betrayal, and the eventual death on the cross. The greatest gift of Christmas is not wrapped in paper and ribbon; it’s wrapped in swaddling clothes and given out of love.
This is such an encouraging truth because it means your worth isn't determined by your performance. You don't have to be good enough, smart enough, or clean enough to earn God’s love. He loved you already in your imperfection, your doubt, and your struggles. He loves the whole world, and that includes you, today.
When you look at the Christmas tree or sing a carol, let it remind you that everything in the story, from the moment Mary said "yes" to the Wise Men offering their gifts, is rooted in this unstoppable, initiating love of God.
My encouragement to you today is this: Don't let self-doubt or guilt block out this powerful truth. Accept the reality of John 3:16 for your own life. God's love is your foundation, your hope, and your assurance. Rest in the knowledge that because God loved us enough to give His Son, we have a firm promise of everlasting life right now, through faith in Him.
