Wondeful, Counsellor

Isaiah 9:6 (KJV): "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

We continue our exploration of the glorious titles given to Christ in Isaiah 9:6. Today, let’s focus on the first two: "Wonderful, Counsellor."

When the prophet spoke those words, he was not merely providing the Messiah with pleasing names; he was describing the specific needs that only God could meet.

Have you ever found yourself completely stuck? You’ve exhausted all your own wisdom, consulted all your friends, and still cannot determine which path to take? We all encounter moments when we desperately require wisdom that exceeds human capability.

This is where the titles "Wonderful and Counsellor" come into play.

He is Wonderful because everything about Him is miraculous: His virgin birth, His life, His teachings, His resurrection, and His power to transform us. He is beyond our comprehension, full of grace and truth. When we present our problems to Him, we know we are approaching a source that is limitless and supernatural.

He is the Counsellor because He provides wisdom, direction, and comfort that no human advisor can match. The Holy Ghost, whom Jesus promised to send, acts as our ultimate Counsellor, guiding us into all truth.

When we combine these two names, we realize that Christ offers Wonderful Counsel—advice that is perfect, powerful, and entirely true. He does not provide temporary fixes; He offers eternal truth.

How does the birth of Christ relate to this? The moment God chose to dwell among us, He granted us ultimate access to wisdom. We need not speculate about what God is like; we see His wisdom, compassion, and truth perfectly exemplified in the life of Jesus.

My encouragement today is to stop relying solely on your own limited wisdom, especially during this stressful time of year. Before making a decision about a purchase, a conversation, or a commitment, take a moment to turn to your Wonderful Counsellor.

He is waiting to guide you. When we invite Him to counsel us, we are welcoming a Wonderful solution into our very human problems. Let us begin each day this Christmas season by trusting His wisdom over our own.
