The Year to Come: Fixing Our Eyes

Today is the final day of the year. We started this month with anticipation, celebrated the birth, and reflected on the promise. Now, as one year closes and another opens, our final devotion must focus on carrying the Christ-centered message forward.

The Christmas story is the beginning of God's redemption plan, but it is not the end. The manger leads to the ministry, the miracles, the cross, and the empty tomb.

Our vision for the new year must be shaped by the ultimate destination of the Christ-child: the triumphant King. The best way to enter a new season is to keep Christ squarely in our field of vision.

The author of Hebrews encourages us with this powerful direction (Hebrews 12:2, KJV): "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

"Looking unto Jesus." That is our primary command for the year to come.

He is the "author" (the originator) of our faith. He started the story in our hearts. He is the "finisher" (the perfecter) of our faith, meaning He will bring it to completion.

As we stand on the threshold of a New Year, let's commit to look away from distractions, past failures, and an uncertain future, and instead fix our gaze firmly on Christ.

The baby in the manger grew up to be the Savior on the cross and the King on the throne. Because He is seated at the right hand of God, our future is secure, our strength is provided, and our hope is eternal.

May your year be a magnificent journey centered on Him. Happy New Year, and may the constant presence of Christ fill every day!
